Dear Colleague in MS Care,
Because of your interest and research in cognitive functioning and rehabilitation in multiple sclerosis, we wanted to make you aware of an opportunity to reach a broad audience of MS clinicians with various areas of expertise. The International Journal of MS Care, which is the official peer-reviewed journal for the Consortium of MS Centers (CMSC) as well as the International Organization of MS Nurses (IOMSN), the International Organization of MS Rehabilitation Therapists (IOMSRT), and Rehabilitation in MS (RIMS), will publish a theme issue for Summer, 2012 titled, "Novel Approaches for Assessing and Facilitating Cognition in MS." Dr. Ralph Benedict and Dr. Kathleen Fuchs will be the guest editors for this issue. The International Journal of MS Care is indexed in the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) and CINAHL Plus.
We are interested in receiving for peer review any submissions regarding Cognition in MS which would contain research of direct clinical value for a variety of MS clinicians including neurologists, physiatrists, psychologists, neuropsychologists, advanced practice nurses as well as RNs, physical therapists, occupational therapists, social workers, and other health professionals. We are particularly interested in manuscripts covering the following topics: remediation of cognitive deficits in MS (e.g., use of emerging technologies, community-based resources, complementary medicine practices), techniques for teaching and implementing compensatory strategies, novel approaches to service delivery, and newly-developed assessment techniques specific to MS. This is an excellent opportunity for those who are currently collecting pilot data to have their preliminary findings published in a peer-reviewed journal prior to citing that data in support of a grant application.
In order to allow for sufficient time for peer review and possible revision, we would like to receive all submissions targeted for this theme issue by February 1, 2012. Please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Benedict, Dr Fuchs, or me with further questions. Our electronic submission system as well as instructions to authors may be found at MSCARE.org under the IJMSC tab or at http://ijmsc.msubmit.net.
Thank you very much for your efforts towards the improvement of care for MS patients.
Sincerely,
Lael A. Stone, M.D. Ralph H. Benedict, PhD Kathleen Fuchs, PhD

The International Journal of MS Care (IJMSC) is the official journal of the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC), Rehabilitation in Multiple Sclerosis (RIMS), the International Organization of Multiple Sclerosis Nurses (IOMSN), and the International Organization of Multiple Sclerosis Rehabilitation Therapists (IOMSRT). Through international and multidisciplinary cooperation and communication, the editors hope to improve the quality of care for patients with MS.
The IJMSC publishes peer-reviewed articles in areas of interest to MS health-care professionals. Topics include neurological, nursing, rehabilitative, psychological, and psychosocial care and quality-of-life issues of people with MS and reflect the diversity of the journal's readership. Categories of manuscripts considered include original research, clinically relevant reviews of the literature, case reports, consensus statements, controversies, book reviews, and letters to the editor.
TheIJMSC now has a Web-based system for manuscript submission and peer review. The system, which was developed in cooperation with eJournalPress, is available at http://ijmsc.msubmit.net. Authors with Internet access are asked to begin using this system for new submissions immediately. Initial registration is required and can be accomplished by clicking the “Register for an Account” link on the home page. Registered users have access only to data pertaining to their own submissions or assignments.
All manuscripts submitted beginning in January 2010 will be tracked and directed through the peer-review process electronically within the system.
If you are a reviewer for IJMSC, you may already have an account in the new system. Please go to the site and update your personal and specialty information so that the journal’s editors can choose appropriate reviewers for papers in various subject areas. From the system home page, click on the “Unknown/Forgotten Password” button to obtain a password and gain access to your individual home page. Then click on “Modify Profile/Password” to update your profile.
Complete instructions for both authors and reviewers on using the online manuscript system appear on the system website and will be published regularly in IJMSC. If you have any questions or comments about the new procedures, please direct them to Maria Stadtler at IJMSC@mscare.org.
